IMG_1422-1Picasa makes it a simple matter to add text to your photo and turn it vertical.

You click on the Text tool to start the process, then just type the text you want.  While you’re still in the editing mode, you should see a circle appear at the center of the text and a little orange dot that I call a ‘handle.’  The circle represents the 360 degrees of angles you can use, and the handle is the way to grab the text block and spin the text to whatever angle you want, including a 90 degree vertical.(Member TutorialVideo: Adding Text to Pictures)

handleThe screen shot at right shows how it looks when you’re using the text tool.  The little dot that the arrow is pointing to is the ‘handle.’  Click and drag on that.  Moving away from the center will make the text bigger, moving in toward the center will make it smaller, and moving around the circle will change the angle.
