201308-001Picasa lovers out there have an endless source of simple tools for enjoying our pictures. I’ve been using Picasa for 10+ years now, and this ‘kaleidoscope’ effect never occurred to me. My friend, Vicki Wassenhove, from the Quad Cities Computer Society and their Digital Photography group had an assignment to use a given picture and improve it in a way that would prompt the question: How Did I Do It?

When I saw Vicki’s wonderful collage, I had to give it a try! With this original picture, Vicki created several works of art!

She started with a simple picture of a flower, cropped it and made 4 copies. Then she flipped the copies, one had to be flipped horizontally, one vertically, and the third needed to be flipped both horizontally and vertically. Picasa’s command to flip horizontally is Ctrl-Shift-H (Cmd-Shift- on Mac) and Ctrl-Shift-V to flip Vertically. She put all 4 pictures into a square Collage, and voila!

And my picture, displayed at the top of this article, started with this original:

  1. […] https://picasageeks.com/2015/02/picasa-tip-youll-flip-for-this-tip/ As anyone who knows me well is aware, I am not really into photo editing. But, this post intrigued me. If you are a photo editing nut who uses Picasa, you need to check it out. […]

  2. Where is the *like* button – this is a great tip!! 🙂

  3. Well I’m still trying to figure this out, I’m missing something. I’ll get back to it tomorrow. I think I got the sizing right. Thought I had the multiple photos down. How do you flip horizontally and vertically at the same time? I think I make things harder than they really are. I couldn’t even get registered for geeks. I’m having a good time with this.

  4. Hi,

I loved the idea of flipping the pictures and putting them together in a collage to make a new and interesting picture! My problem is I can’t figure out how to make 4 copies of the same picture in Picasa. I can make 4 copies in My Pictures but they don’t all show up in Picasa. What am I missing? Something simple I’m sure. Help!

    • There are several ways to make copies. The way I did it for this collage is File->Save a Copy

  5. I am absolutely flabbergasted at how easy it is to make a kaleidoscopic picture in Picasa. I’ve been following these instructions and making LOTS of cool images using my own photos tonight…over two hours of complete glee! Thank you so much for this tip!
